It was also announced that a special fan voting project called the “My Hero Academia ULTIMATE SCENE RANKING” is now active from July 15, 2025 until September 15, 2025. Fans from Japan and worldwide can now vote for their favorite heroes and villains scenes from the anime’s past seven seasons. A wide variety of short scenes are now available on the project’s own YouTube channel

Fans can vote once every 24 hours on the project’s official website. The final results will be announced on the eighth season’s premiere this coming October.

The production staff for season eight includes many who worked on the seventh season, which consists of Kenji Nagasaki as chief director, Naomi Nakayama as director, Yosuke Kuroda as screenwriter, Yoshihiko Umakoshi and Hitomi Odashima as character designers, and Yuki Hayashi as music composer. Bones is in charge of the production supervision, while Bones Film (previously credited under Bones) is responsible for the animation production.

The first TV anime season premiered in 2016, with the seventh season airing in May 2024. The series has also inspired four anime films, the latest being 2024’s My Hero Academia The Movie: You’re Next. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime series and films worldwide, outside of Japan.

The franchise also spawned several manga spinoffs, novels, video games, stage plays, artbooks, and guidebooks.

My Hero Academia is based on the manga series by Kohei Horikoshi, which ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from July 7, 2014 to August 5, 2024. A total of 42 tankobon volumes were released. A spinoff titled My Hero Academia: Vigilantes was published from 2016 to 2022 and was adapted into its own anime series

VIZ Media releases the manga in English, describing the main synopsis as:

Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn’t got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. High School for budding heroes, his life is looking more and more like a dead end. Then an encounter with All Might, the greatest hero of them all, gives him a chance to change his destiny.
