CyberAgent has announced the establishment of Studio Kurm, a new Tokyo-based animation production studio. Its president is producer Maiko Okada (Yaiba: Samurai Legend and Ranking of Kings animation producer).
A few things that CyberAgent mentions in relation to Studio Kurm’s founding include:
• The complication of the animation production environment as a result of recent diversification and increase of projects
• The intention of providing a place that allows talented young creatives to flourish even more
• The intention of providing appropriate returns
• The intention of pursuing new expressions of animation
In a statement for the press release, Okada mentioned that the animator Yoshimichi Kameda (Yaiba: Samurai Legend and Mob Psycho 100 character designer, DAN DA DAN alien and yokai designer) will join the team as creative representative in January 2026. The move is meant to help realize the “‘maximalization of creators’ value.'”
Okada also spoke of having fears that anime would no longer be able to be produced due to the market’s expansion and the continuously increasing stress on production environments. They said that Studio Kurm is taking on the challenge of establishing a sustainable production framework and taking Japan’s animation culture to the “next stage.”
CyberAgent is involved in various fields, including internet advertising, media and IP, and games. The animation studio Cygames Pictures is a subsidiary of its consolidated subsidiary Cygames.
Earlier this year, CyberAgent announced the establishment of anime studio CA Soa, which has ex-Sunrise and Sunrise Beyond producer Masakazu Ogawa as president.
