Action anime Yaiba: Samurai Legend, which enjoyed a two-cour run that began in April, will return for a second season subtitled Kaguya Arc.
There’s no word yet on when the new season will arrive, but there’s an announcement visual and trailer featuring the titular Yaiba, his rival Takeshi Onimaru, and the namesake of the Kaguya Arc.
Yaiba: Samurai Legend (Shin Samurai-den Yaiba) is a modern adaptation of the Yaiba manga by Detective Conan/Case Closed‘s Gosho Aoyama, which previously inspired a Pastel-produced anime series that ran from 1993 to 1994. The story follows samurai-in-training Yaiba as he moves from the jungle to the city and quickly involves supernatural obstacles for the young hero, like the conquest-minded ruler of the moon Kaguya.
The 2025 anime was produced by WIT Studio and had Takahiro Hasui (Mob Psycho 100 III) as director and Yoshimichi Kameda (Mob Psycho 100) as character designer and chief animation director. Principle cast members include Minami Takayama as Yaiba, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Takeshi, and Manaka Iwami as city girl Sayaka Mine.
Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Apple TV+, and iQIYI are streaming the show.
The manga is available in English from Viz Media. It was the winning title of the 38th Shogakukan Manga Award Children’s category.
