The first live-action Golden Kamuy film premiered in January 2024. A drama series sequel, Renzoku Drama W Golden Kamuy -Hokkaido Shisei Shuujin Soudatsu-hen-, followed in fall of that year with nine episodes.

The original Golden Kamuy manga by Satoru Noda ran from 2014 to 2022 and is collected into 31 tankobon volumes. It was serialized in Shueisha’s seinen magazine Weekly Young Jump. Viz Media describes the manga as:

In the early twentieth century, Russo-Japanese War veteran Saichi “Immortal” Sugimoto scratches out a meager existence during the postwar gold rush in the wilderness of Hokkaido. When he stumbles across a map to a fortune in hidden Ainu gold, he sets off on a treacherous quest to find it. But Sugimoto is not the only interested party, and everyone who knows about the gold will kill to possess it! Faced with the harsh conditions of the northern wilderness, ruthless criminals and rogue Japanese soldiers, Sugimoto will need all his skills and luck—and the help of an Ainu girl named Asirpa—to survive.

A TV anime adaptation began in 2018 and is returning in January 2026 with its fifth season, Golden Kamuy: The Final Chapter. Before that, there will be a two-part theatrical preview of the new season titled Golden Kamuy: Sapporo Beer Kojo-hen in October 2025.
