GKIDS Acquires Global Home Video & Digital Rights to Arcane Season 1 for 2024 Release featured image

GKIDS has announced that it has acquired worldwide (excluding China) home video and digital transactional rights to the first season of Riot Games’ Arcane animated series

The company, alongside international partners, will release a full product array for the series later this year, ranging from digital to premium editions, including a 4K version exclusive to the home entertainment release. Further details will be announced later.

The first season consisted of 9 episodes and were released in three parts in 2021 on November 6, November 13, and November 20. The second season will premiere on Netflix this coming November 2024. The series overall is part of the expansive League of Legends universe. 

The three main voice cast members from season one will reprise their roles for the second season, which stars Ella Purnell as Jinx, Hailee Steinfeld as Vi, and Katie Leung as Caitlyn Kiramman. 

Fortiche Productions is the animation production company once again, with Riot Games credited with the creative supervision. The second season was originally scheduled to release in 2023 before being delayed. 

Christian Linke and Alex Yee serve as creators for the animated series. Pascal Charrue and Arnaud Delord co-directed several episodes of the series.

Arcane has been awarded with several awards and accolades, including Best Adaptation at The Game Awards and Outstanding Animated Program at the Primetime Emmy Awards. It also won several honors at the Annie Awards.  

Netflix describes the synopsis of Arcane as:

Set in the utopian region of Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun, the story follows the origins of two iconic League champions-and the power that will tear them apart.
