Late last week, VIZ Media revealed the first four titles in the company’s new VIZ Originals One-Shots line, which are now available to read on the Viz Manga service. New one-shots will be added monthly to the service.
The four exciting VIZ Originals One-Shots that are now available include:
- • Cinematic Certitude (Action, Sci-fi) — Naf
- • Ancient Melody (Fantasy, Action) — Jonathan Lareva
- • Skin & Bone (Action, Adventure) — Josh Tierney (writer) and Valentin Serber (art)
- • The Stranger (Action, Sci-fi) — Liam Naughton
The one-shot titles in the VIZ Originals One-Shots program are described as “bite-size original manga stories created locally by debut and up-and-coming creators.” The program is led by former Weekly Shonen Jump editor-in-chief Hisashi Sasaki, who is working closely and guiding creators during the process.
Successful one-shots in the program will be published digitally by VIZ. In addition, the company may also establish them as intellectual property that could lead to an ongoing series for digital and print publication, producing the title into an anime, and creating consumer products.
VIZ previously announced it was opening portal submissions for one-shots last October. The Viz Originals imprint was originally launched in 2019 to encourage the creation of manga-inspired stories.
