A new trailer and five more cast members have been unveiled for the upcoming The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy At All TV anime series, which will begin broadcasting in Japan on January 8, 2027.
Crunchyroll will stream the anime series in select countries and territories. It also released an English-subtitled version of the latest trailer during its showcase panel at New York Comic Con 2026.
The five new voice cast members include:
- • Kenjiro Tsuda as Joe
- • Tasuku Hatanaka as Narita
- • Yurina Amami as Chizuru
- • Fairouz Ai as Mao
- • Maiko Nomura as Kanna
They join a previously announced main voice cast that will star Mariya Ise as Mitsuki Koga and Akari Kito as Aya Osawa.
Masashi Ishihama (Horimiya, Persona5 The Animation, From The New World) is directing the anime series, with Rino Yamasaki (The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity) as series composer, Kanna Hirayama (OSHI NO KO, Rent-A-Girlfriend) as character designer, and Kosuke Noma and Takayuki “Kojiro” Sasaki as music composers. CloverWorks is handling the animation production.
The yuri manga series by Sumiko Arai originally began as a web manga posted on X/Twitter on April 10, 2022. It began serialization on Pixiv Comic in April 2023. Kadokawa Shoten has published the series in print in Japan under its Kitora imprint and has released four tankobon volumes as of February 2026. A fifth volume will be published in Japan on January 13, 2027.
The manga won the Next Manga Awards 2023 in the web manga category and Best New Manga at the 2nd American Manga Awards.
Yen Press licensed the The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy at All manga for English release, describing the synopsis as:
Fashionable and upbeat high schooler Aya falls head over heels for an employee at a local CD shop. He’s got an air of mystery about him, great style, and an impeccable music taste. Little does she know—this supposedly male employee is actually her female classmate Mitsuki! Mitsuki generally keeps to herself, but since her seat is right next to Aya’s, she can’t help but be extremely aware of the other’s crush. Revealing the truth is out of the question for Mitsuki—but perhaps getting closer to Aya wouldn’t be so bad…
