The Space Battleship Yamato (Uchuu Senkan Yamato) anime movie announced in 2024 has gotten several updates, including the title Space Battleship Yamato √2199, a teaser visual, and the fact that it’s a Production I.G and khara co-production.
Khara president Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Shin Godzilla, His and Her Circumstances) is co-directing with Yutaka Izubuchi (Patlabor EZY director, Patlabor mechanical designer, RahXephon director, Metallic Rouge chief supervisor). Anno is also credited as planner and executive producer.

The original Space Battleship Yamato TV series aired from 1974 to 1975. IMDb’s synopsis of the sci-fi anime reads:
In the year 2199, the space battleship Yamato embarks on a voyage to the planet Iscandar, to retrieve a device that will rejuvenate a war-ravaged Earth.
Sequel series and movies, including 1980’s Yamato yo Towa ni, followed in the original’s wake. A remake series began in 2012 with Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199, and is currently up to the multi-part theatrical title Yamato yo Towa ni – REBEL 3199, the seventh and final chapter of which hits Japanese theaters on October 30, 2026.
The new Space Battleship Yamato film was previously described to be taking a “different course” from the remake. The announcement at the time also revealed that Khara had received the rights by Voyager Holdings to produce new animated works based on Space Battleship Yamato, and that it had gotten licensing permissions from Touhakushinsha.
