A new trailer and key visual for the upcoming We Are Aliens anime film has been released, showcasing the lead heroine Konatsu. The anime film is scheduled to begin screening in Japanese theaters on September 25, 2026.
Kohei Kadowaki is the director and scriptwriter for We Are Aliens, having previously been involved with music videos for YOASOBI’s “Comet,” the Ayase featuring Hatsune Miku song “Yokubari,” and KAF’s “Sore o Sekai to Iun dane.” He shares a planning credit with the NOTHING NEW film label founded in 2022, which is also credited for the movie’s production (on both the creative/hands-on production and the business/finance sides).
Other names in the production credits include MIYU PRODUCTIONS for cooperation and Yaffle as the music composer.

We Are Aliens was screened at Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026 as part of the Feature Film Competition lineup. It will also be in-competition at the Ottawa International Animation Festival later this month, alongside Mononoke the Movie: Chapter III – The Curse of the Serpent.
The page for its successful Motion Gallery crowdfunding campaign lists 2027 as a planned international release date.
We Are Aliens follows two boys whose relationship is strongly shaken by a certain incident. The synopsis is described as:
In a rural town during the Heisei era, two boys eet. Tsubasa, who struggles with being “ordinary,” and Gyotaro, who is seen as “special.” As subtle distortions begin to creep into their everyday lives, an irreversible incident changes their relationship forever. Is this a story of youth? Or a memory that should never be revisited?
