A The Apothecary Diaries game for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Steam has been revealed. It’s titled The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother, and will be out in early 2027.
A trailer shows some of the exploration, ingredient gathering, medicine crafting, and investigating that Maomao will get up to in the game:
Maomao appears to be very busy in The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother. Its Steam page mentions Five Mysteries in the rear palace that she has to look into, a traveling actor called Guanyu (Yohei Azakami) “who gradually begins to pull the apothecary into the very real drama of his life,” and another set of mysteries affecting the capital dubbed the Five Curses. The latter leads Maomao to the titular, self-identified imperial younger brother, a masked individual spoken of as a vigilante “righting the wrongs of the court.”
The gameplay loop will include Maomao making medicine for key witnesses and making use of gleaned information to “gain the upper hand in negotiations with potential culprits.” Says the Steam page, “Choose which information to present to involved parties and earn enough trust to get crucial leads. Your choices directly affect your credibility: wrong answers reduce trust, and repeated mistakes may lead you into a dead end.”
On the crafting side, the minigame will vary in challenge depending on the quality and variety of the ingredients, and there will be an automated feature for “hasty healers to craft high-quality herbal remedies quickly and with ease.”
KOEI TECMO’s Gust brand and TOHO Games are involved with The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother.
