KADOKAWA‘s Dengeki Bunko label has unveiled Black Bullet: The New World Order, an upcoming reboot of Shiden Kanzaki‘s unfinished Black Bullet light novel series that previously inspired a 2014 TV anime. The first two volumes are set to drop on November 10, 2026.
Black Bullet‘s sci-fi action story is set in a near-future where mankind is forced to wall itself from a parasitic virus called the Gastrea. Pairs of civil security officers, comprising Initiators drawn from the superhuman Cursed Children — female kids who have the virus but can control it — and their supervising Promoters, are employed against this threat.
Black Bullet: The New World Order‘s first three volumes (the third is a two-parter) will be based on the original series, with some additions and tweaks. Volume 4, however, will see the narrative branching off into a new path, and Volumes 5 and beyond are described as a completely new work based on the original seventh volume from 2014 (which was also the last Black Bullet volume until now).
After the first two volumes, both parts of Black Bullet: The New World Order Volume 3 will be released on December 10, followed Volume 4 on January 8, 2027 and Volume 5 on February 10, 2027. The latter two are also two-parters.
Volume 5 Part 1 of Black Bullet: The New World Order has the subtitle Re: The Bullet That Changed the World (Re: Sekai Henkau no Judan), the same as the old series’ seventh volume barring the “Re:.” Part 2 is subtitled Justice and Unjustice.
Saki Ukai is returning to illustrate the new books.
The original Black Bullet series debuted in 2011 and inspired a manga adaptation, a gag manga, and a “pseudo-manga” project titled Black Bullet if. The TV anime aired during the Spring 2014 anime season for 13 episodes and was directed by Masayuki Kojima (Made in Abyss), with Kinema Citrus and Orange co-producing. Yuki Kaji and Rina Hidaka played lead characters Rentaro Satomi and Enju Aihara, respectively, and reprised their roles for the Black Bullet: The New World Order trailer, which also features the anime’s fripSide opening song, “black bullet.”
In addition to the Black Bullet reboot, it was announced that 2027 will see the launch of a new series by Kanzaki, with the title being Aku no Shinzui (The Essence of Evil).
