Voice actress Yumi Hara has been announced as the newest voice cast member for the ongoing Chainsmoker Cat TV anime series. The series began airing in Japan on July 2, 2026.
Hara will voice the character Shizue Sato, who is Yani and Imoko’s mother. She will make an appearance in the seventh episode and is previewed in the promotional video below.
She joins a main voice cast that stars:

Studio Lemon’s Taku Kimura (Dragonite and the Special Delivery) is directing the anime series, with Takashi Aoshima (The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You series composer) as scriptwriter, Riki Matsuura (Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc Devil designer) as character designer, and Keiichi Suzuki as music composer. Bibury Animation Studios is in charge of the animation production.
Other staff involved in the series include Atelier Musa’s Yukiko Maruyama (My Hero Academia co-background art director) and Shotaro Yoshino as background art directors, Yuiha Ota (Witch Watch) as color designer, and Hisashi Yonezawa (Witch Watch) as compositing director.
OceanVeil and Netflix are streaming the anime series in select countries and territories worldwide.
The slice of life comedy manga by Nyan Nyan Factory debuted in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine as a guest appearance on February 20, 2023, with the series beginning regular serialization on April 3, 2023. Thirteen tankobon volumes as of August 2026. The manga began as a X/Twitter webcomic.
Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the Chainsmoker Cat manga for English release and describes the main synopsis as:
Where there’s smoke, there’s a catgirl chainsmoking in this comedy manga! A look at the daily troubles of one catgirl and her attempts to get her life together.
Welcome to Yani’s apartment. Please don’t mind the smell. Yani is a catgirl with a seriously bad smoking habit. Every time she tries to quit, she becomes weak to the cravings and gives in almost instantly.
Behind on her rent and unable to hold down a job, her friends and sister rally around to help her out. But when she’s using her pee to put out cigarette fires, they may just have their work cut out for them.
