The upcoming Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising anime film will receive IMAX screenings in Japan starting on August 28, 2026, along with its standard theatrical release on the same day.
A special visual of Walpurgisnacht was also released for the anime film’s IMAX screenings.
Akiyuki Shimbo is serving as the chief director for the anime film, with Yukihiro Miyamoto as director, Nitroplus’ Gen Urobuchi as screenwriter, aokiume as original character designer, Junichiro Taniguchi (since Rebellion, previously a co-credit on character design) as character designer, and Yuki Kajiura as music composer. SHAFT is in charge of the animation production.
Other staff members include Gekidan Inu Curry (Walpurgisnacht Rising specifically the doroinu half of the duo) as parallel world designer, Tomohiro Furukawa (Revue Starlight director) as storyboard artist, visual, and concept designer, Kazuki Kawata (RWBY: Ice Queendom and Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story Season 2 -The Eve of Awakening- co-main animator) as visual and concept designer, Hitoshi Hibino (reprising) as color designer, Ken Naito (background art director since the first compilation movie) and Shuichi Kusamori (Psycho-Pass: The Movie background art director) as background artists, and Takayuki Aizu (Bakemonogatari, Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra opening animation) as compositing director.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising is the follow up to the 2013 anime film Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Rebellion, which was the sequel to the 2011 Puella Magi Madoka Magica TV anime series. It was first announced in April 2021 and had Winter 2024 and Winter 2025 as its previous release windows.
The Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise includes the now-defunct Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story gacha game, its 2025 successor Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra, and the spinoff Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story TV anime series.
Crunchyroll is streaming the 2011 Puella Magi Madoka Magica TV anime series and the Magia Record spinoff anime in select countries and territories worldwide. It describes the former as:
