The Ogre’s Bride is based on the Starts Publishing-published novel series written by Kureha and illustrated by Yu Shiroya. In a Japan where humans and ayakashi co-exist, protagonist Yuzu is a plain high schooler who is compared with her younger sister, the bride of a fox spirit, and treated unfavorably by her family. However, her fortunes change when she meets a handsome oni.

The novel series began in 2020 and has nine volumes as of 2024. There is a manga drawn by Jun Togashi, which won the main prize at Comic Cmoa’s Minna ga Erabu!! Denshi Comic Taishou 2023. MangaPlaza has the manga in English.

The Ogre’s Bride was previously a short story that won the Excellence Award at Starts Publishing’s first Novema! Character Tanpen Shosetsu Contest, which had the theme of “ayakashi x romance.” The novels inspired a live-action movie that premiered in Japan in March 2026.
