Hideki Anbo (Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune) is directing the Cyborg 009: Nemesis anime, with Atsuhiro Tomioka (FAIRY TAIL 100 YEARS QUEST series composer) and Charactex as scriptwriters and sanorin (My Girlfriend is Big and Cute manga creator) as character designer. ARECT is in charge of the animation production.

Cyborg 009 began as a manga series by the late Shotaro Ishinomori. The general story centers on nine cyborgs, including the titular 009, escaping from the Black Ghost organization, which abducts humans and develops combat cyborgs for sale.

The original manga series debuted in Shonengahosha’s now-defunct Weekly Shonen King on July 19, 1964. A novel trilogy based on Ishinomori’s manuscripts titled Cyborg 009 Kanketsu-hen 2012 009 conclusion GOD’S WAR, was released in 2012 and served as the conclusion to the Cyborg 009 story.

Tokyopop previously published some of the manga’s volumes in English print. The now-defunct ComiXology licensed the manga series for digital English release in 2012. An American graphic novel of Cyborg 009 was published by Archaia Entertainment in 2013.

Cyborg 009 has inspired numerous TV anime series and films, with the first being the 1966 film of the same name. The 2016 three-part Cyborg 009: Call of Justice Netflix anime was the most recent entry in the series prior to Nemesis

Cyborg 009: Nemesis follows the emergence of the Nemesis organization, which believes that 009 and his allies are incapable of guiding the world to peace.
