Crunchyroll has announced the early release of Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You‘s first six episodes on the platform, presented as 12 “mini-episodes.” The proper debut date for the anime is sometime in July.
Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You also received a partial early release in Japan, exclusive to the ABEMA streaming and streaming television service. The 12 mini-episodes, which feature bespoke theme songs, dropped on June 3 at 20:30 JST for premium members. For free viewers, these episodes will air according to schedule until becoming available for regular streaming on June 26.
Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You is based on the Square Enix-published manga by Jinushi. Manga UP! Global describes the manga’s synopsis as such:
Meet Sasaki, an overworked, middle-aged office worker. His days are marked only by the passing of more unrewarding corporate drudgery. Smoking helps take the edge off, but other than that, the only bright spot of his day is when he goes to the nearby supermarket and sees Yamada’s smiling face. So, one evening after yet another exhausting day, he heads to the supermarket to find he missed Yamada’s shift. Dejected, he decides to go find a smoking area but discovers there isn’t one to be found. Just as he’s about to leave, a girl in a biker jacket named Tayama asks him to join her at a secret smoking area!
The manga is serialized in Big Gangan and will get its ninth volume on July 24. It originated as a Twitter comic in March 2022.
Update: Corrected description of the ABEMA early release, which previously said that the full series was released on the platform.
