The Fairy Princess Minky Momo: Akogare no Yume e Magokoro no Duo OVA will begin screening in Japan on November 13. Shinjuku Wald 9 is among the locations that will screen the anime.

Fairy Princess Minky Momo: Akogare no Yume e Magokoro no Duo is the first new Minky Momo OVA since 1994’s Minky Momo in Tabidachi no Eki, and is the 50th anniversary project of animation production studio Ashi Productions. The original Fairy Princess Minky Momo (Maho no Princess Minky Momo) TV anime started airing in 1982 and ran for 63 episodes. Crunchyroll describes the synopsis as such:

As humans lose sight of their dreams, Fenarinarsa, the land of dreams in the sky, is in danger of drifting away from Earth. In hopes of saving their land, the king and queen of Fenarinarsa send their daughter, Momo, to Earth to revive the dreams of mankind. With her transformative powers and loyal companions, the magical girl embarks on a quest to spread joy.

The new OVA has Ayumu Watanabe (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Dinosaur 2006, Children of the Sea, Summer Time Rendering, Witch Hat Atelier, Akane-Banashi) for its director. Other production credits include Hiroshi Watanabe (key animator and animation director on the original Fairy Princess Minky Momo TV anime, later involved in character design, storyboarding, and episode direction in future series) as character designer, Mari Tominaga (Maho no Princess Minky Momo Yume o Dakishimete sub-character designer) as the OVA’s other character designer, and Deko Akao (May I Ask for One Final Thing? series composer) as scriptwriter. Studio Live is credited with design cooperation.

Fairy Princess Minky Momo was directed by Kunihiko Yuyama (The Strongest King Encyclopedia ~The Ultimate Tournament~ and To Be a Pokémon Master: Ultimate Journeys: The Series, Pokémon: The First Movie director) as chief director with Takeshi Shudo (Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution and Pokémon: The First Movie scriptwriter) as series composer. It was followed by another TV series titled Maho no Princess Minky Momo Yume o Dakishimete that started airing in 1991, as well as a few OVAs: 1985’s Maho no Princess Minky Momo Yume no Naka no Rinbu, 1993’s Minky Momo in Yume ni Kakeru Hashi, and the aforementioned Minky Momo in Tabidachi no Eki.

A Minky Momo revival was announced in 2009. Shudo passed away the next year.
