The upcoming Wasted Chef anime film has received a teaser visual (via Comic Natalie). The image shows two characters in conversation while preparing a burger.
While the illustration depicts a happy-looking scene, the accompanying tagline states, “On that day, you and taste disappeared from the world.”
Wasted Chef‘s production was reported in 2023. It’s the first original work from director Takayuki Hirao (Pompo the Cinephile, The Garden of Sinners: Paradox Spiral, God Eater, Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack), who’s again directing at Pompo the Cinephile‘s CLAP. Other staff include Shingo Adachi (Lycoris Recoil director, Sword Art Online Season 1 and 2 character designer) as main character designer and Kenta Matsukuma (Pompo The Cinephile) as music composer.
Last month saw some footage from the movie being revealed through a trailer for this year’s Annecy Animation Showcase, which features work-in-progress titles that are shown to “sales agents, distributors, and festival programmers.” Wasted Chef is scheduled to wrap production in 2027, according to Annecy.
The film’s Annecy Animation Showcase synopsis reads:
A young chef chasing a lost flavor lands in a ruined city without taste. Saved by Kasumi, his cooking awakens forgotten memories. But a dark force threatens to erase all desire — making his quest the last hope to save both worlds.
