The recently announced My Hero Academia short anime I am a hero too will make its streaming debut on August 3 in Japan. Before that, it will be screened at Anime Expo 2026, which runs from July 2 to July 5.

The anime will also be screened in Japan on August 1 and 2, during the “character matchup” episode screenings taking place on those dates.

I am a hero too adapts a one-shot that sees a teenage Eri visiting U.A. High School. The one-shot was released in 2025’s Ultra Age fanbook.

The short anime is the next post-My Hero Academia Final Season anime content after the My Hero Academia extra episode “More” (“No.170+1”), which timeskips to depict Deku and his class eight years after graduating. That episode was based on the 431st chapter of the original My Hero Academia manga by Kohei Horikoshi.

The My Hero Academia TV anime series debuted in 2016, and ended with 2025’s My Hero Academia Final Season (the eighth season). The manga was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 2014 to 2024. Viz Media describes the manga as such:

Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn’t got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. High School for budding heroes, his life is looking more and more like a dead end. Then an encounter with All Might, the greatest hero of them all, gives him a chance to change his destiny.

Aside from the main My Hero Academia TV series, there have been anime movies and two seasons of the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes spin-off. The franchise also includes video games and an upcoming Hollywood live-action movie.
