A new trailer has been released for the currently airing TV anime series, I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class. It was released alongside the announcement of three additional cast members.
The cast members are as follows:
- • Rikuya Yasuda as the classmate Nozomu Seki
- • Shinji Kawada as Maki’s father, Itsuki Maehara
- • Yurina Amami as Kyoka Minato, Itsuki’s subordinate
They join previously announced cast members Haruki Ishiya as Maki Maehara, Manaka Iwami as Umi Asanagi, Sayumi Suzuhiro as Yu Amami, and Ikumi Hasegawa as Nina Arata.
The series began airing on April 7, 2026.
The series is based on a light novel series written by Takata and illustrated by Azuri Hyuga. The first volume was previously illustrated by Tom Osabe before Hyuga became the series’ illustrator from the second volume onwards. It was first published on Kadokawa’s Kakuyomu before being published under Kadokawa Shoten. As of May 2026, the series has published nine volumes and a side story. The 10th volume is scheduled to be released in Japan on July 1, 2026. It inspired a manga adaptation by Rin Ono.
Yen Press has licensed and is publishing the manga adaptation in English. The synopsis of the first volume is as follows:
High school is a fresh start for most people—but not for Maki Maehara. He’s always been a loner, and he knows this year isn’t going to be any different. As expected, Maehara sees no change even six months in…until he runs into his classmate Umi Asanagi at a video store! Always at the center of attention and ranked the second-prettiest girl in class by the boys, Asanagi’s from a totally different world. But it turns out the two have some things in common, and not just the B movies they came to rent. When they become friends in secret, Maehara discovers his days are about to get a little more colorful!
