Two new The Quintessential Quintuplets (Gotobun no Hanayome) anime projects have been announced. One will take the form of a TV adaptation of the Gotobun no Hanayome: Shunkashuto sequel light novels, while the other is an OVA adapting previously unused material from the original manga.
An announcement video and a visual were released with the project reveals.
The Quintessential Quintuplets is a romantic comedy that follows high schooler Futaro Uesugi and his developing relationship with the Nakano quintuplets, whom he tutors. The Negi Haruba manga ran in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine from 2017 to 2020, with two TV anime seasons, an anime movie, the two-part The Quintessential Quintuplets Specials (Gotobun no Hanayome~) TV anime special, and the separate The Quintessential Quintuplets* TV special debuting between 2019 to 2024. The Shunkashuto (Spring Summer Fall Winter) light novels, written by Hajime Asano with full supervision and illustrations by Haruba, depicts the lives of Futaro and the Nakano sisters during their high school graduation year.
Three Shunkashuto volumes were released in 2025
The production details for the new anime are currently unknown. The first season of The Quintessential Quintuplets was directed by Satoshi Kuwabara at Tezuka Productions, while the second season was directed by Kaori at Bibury Animation Studios. The Quintessential Quintuplets Specials was produced by Shaft and directed by Yukihiro Miyamoto, while The Quintessential Quintuplets* was helmed by the movie’s Masato Jinbo at Bibury.
Keiichiro Ochi was series composer for most of the TV anime entries and wrote the script for the movie, with Jinbo being the series composer for The Quintessential Quintuplets* . The character designers were Michinosuke Nakamura (Season 1), Masato Katsumata (most of the entries from Season 2), and Kazuya Shiotsuki (The Quintessential Quintuplets~).
Last year saw the release of the “dokidoki dungeon RPG” spin-off Gotoubun no Princess ~Gensou to Shinen to Mahou Gakuin~, one of several games inspired by The Quintessential Quintuplets. That game’s limited edition came with an original Seven Arcs-produced anime inspired by it.
