A third trailer for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising movie, which is currently scheduled for an August 28 release after two public delays, has been released. The trailer, as cryptic as the ones preceding it, contains a mix of spectacle, intimacy, and bewitching imagery.
While the air of mystery around Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising remains as strong as ever, the names and voice actors of the two new magical girls have been revealed. The bespectacled green hair magical girl is Shichoka (Shion Wakayama), while the one with massive hair ornaments is Selma Therese (Tomoyo Kurosawa).
More staff credits were also revealed, including:
• Storyboard artist, visual and concept designer: Tomohiro Furukawa (Revue Starlight director)
• Visual and concept designer: Kazuki Kawata (RWBY: Ice Queendom and Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story Season 2 -The Eve of Awakening- co-main animator)
• Color designer: Hitoshi Hibino (reprising)
• Background art: Ken Naito (background art director since the first compilation movie)
• Background art: Shuichi Kusamori (Psycho-Pass: The Movie background art director)
• Compositing director: Takayuki Aizu (Bakemonogatari, Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra opening animation)
Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising is the follow up to the 2013 film Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Rebellion, which served as a sequel to the 2011 dark magical girl TV anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica. The general setting of Puella Magi Madoka Magica sees young girls making contracts with the enigmatic creature Kyubey, becoming magical girls to fight frightening Witches in exchange for having a wish fulfilled, while unaware of the dark truths involved.
The new movie, announced in April 2021, had winter 2024 and winter 2025 as its previous release windows.
Also part of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise is a TV anime adaptation of the now-defunct Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story gacha game and its 2025 successor Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra.
Crunchyroll describes the synopsis of the original anime as such:

One day, she had a very magical encounter. She doesn’t know if it happened by chance or by fate yet.
