Gekijoban Mononoke Daisansho: Hebigami, the third and final chapter of the Mononoke anime film trilogy has received its first trailer, a visual, and a May 29, 2026 release date.

An earlier visual for the film was revealed in March of this year.

The visually dense and lavish Mononoke films see the enigmatic Medicine Seller tackling supernatural cases in the Ouku, the inner palace where the Edo emperor’s harem resides and where humans are as dangerous as spirits. The first film, Mononoke The Movie: The Phantom in the Rain, premiered in Japan in July 2024 and came to Netflix in November of the same year. The second movie, Mononoke The Movie: Chapter II – The Ashes of Rage premiered in Japan in March 2025 and also made its way to Netflix.

The first movie was originally meant to be released in 2023. It was announced in June 2022 at the 15th anniversary event of the original Mononoke TV anime, which spun off from the “Goblin Cat” episodes of 2006 horror anime anthology Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales. Takahiro Sakurai was the original voice of the Medicine Seller and was meant to reprise the role until a post-scandal recast led to Hiroshi Kamiya taking over for the movies.
