Anime production studios A-1 Pictures and CloverWorks (formerly A-1 Pictures’ Koenji Studio) have teamed up to establish FLINT BASE, a Tokyo-based animation outfit that’s aimed at providing newcomers with training and experience.
Entrants’ time at FLINT BASE (up to two years) will begin with them learning the basics of the animation medium and picking up in-between animation skills. The work there is primarily related to in-betweening, with a focus on CloverWorks and A-1 Pictures projects.
FLINT BASE will open its doors in April 2026. Recruitment is scheduled to begin within that year, with plans to take on more than 10 people. FLINT BASE is a part of CloverWorks, so those who get in will be signed on as contracted employees of the latter.
When explaining the background for FLINT BASE’s creation, its website says that CloverWorks and A-1 Pictures have been striving to take on new graduates and cultivate in-house staff. However, the limited number of bodies to serve the purposes of recruitment and training narrowed the scope.
A-1 Pictures and CloverWorks are subsidiaries of the Sony Music Entertainment-owned Aniplex.
