The second season of the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End TV anime will make its debut on January 16, 2026 JST. It will be part of Nippon TV’s Friday Anime Night block.
The announcement comes with a key visual depicting Frieren, Fern, and Stark navigating a tunnel with what seems to be crystals. The terrain has forced the three into the air, with Stark relying on Fern for aerial transport.
The sequel is coming slightly over two years since the two-cour first season, the first anime to air in the Friday Anime Night block, debuted on September 29, 2023 JST. The adaptation of the Shogakukan-published fantasy manga written by Kanehito Yamada and drawn by Tsukasa Abe follows the long-lived elf Frieren, once a member of the party that defeated the Demon King, as she journeys with a new generation of companions.
Season 1 director Keiichiro Saito (Bocchi the Rock!) is taking a step back for Season 2 to assume a director cooperation role. Tomoya Kitagawa (Frieren Season 1 storyboard artist and episode director for Episodes 2, 8, and 25, among other roles) is directing the new season with Daiki Harashina (Frieren Season 1’s monster designer, Episode 3 storyboard artist and director, Episode 24 storyboard artist, and more) as assistant director.
The Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga began serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 2020 and has 14 volumes as of March 2025. It was the recipient of the 48th Kodansha Awards (for Shonen) and 69th Shogakukan Manga Award, and has also performed well at a number of other rankings and awards.
Viz Media publishes the manga in English.
