The anime is based on the romantic comedy manga by Fuyu Azuma, which was serialized in KADOKAWA’s Dragon Comics Edge from June 22, 2018 to June 9, 2023. Ten tankobon volumes were released in total. BookWalker Global and MangaPlaza have both released the manga in English digitally.

A new spinoff manga by Azuma was also released on October 13, 2023 and has published two tankobon volumes as of April 2025.

Crunchyroll will stream the Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Oota worldwide, and describes the main synopsis as:

Kashiwada-san’s face is a masterpiece of stoicism. Her classmate Oota-kun? A walking explosion of emotions determined to crack her calm with over-the-top antics. (Spoiler: It’s not working.) But between his failed surprises and her secret smiles, these polar-opposite classmates might just be into each other! Witness a rom-com where love speaks louder than expressions.
