A new trailer and a key visual for Ranma 1/2 Season 2 have been released. The former includes a preview of the Wednesday Campanella opening theme song “Wo Ai Ni” (“I Love You” in Mandarin) and peeks of a Romeo and Juliet play with Ranma and Akane.
Netflix also confirmed that the show will debut on the streamer on October 4 — previously, it was revealed that the series will have its Japanese broadcast debut on October 4 JST (effectively October 5 at 12:55 AM JST), with the Netflix premiere happening afterwards.
It was also announced that the Ranma 1/2 soundtrack will be released on November 24 JST.
Ranma 1/2 Season 2 is the continuation of last year’s Ranma 1/2 anime remake. The first season’s synopsis reads as:
Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo of Tendo Dojo are betrothed to each other by their parents. But Ranma faces a unique problem… Ever since he fell into the cursed springs of Jusenkyo while training in China, his body has acquired the peculiar trait of transforming into a girl when doused with cold water and reverting to a boy with hot water.
The show is based on the manga by Rumiko Takahashi, which debuted in the 36th 1987 issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday and ended in the 12th 1996 issue of the magazine. The new Ranma 1/2 anime is the second remake of a Takahashi manga after the four-cour Urusei Yatsura anime.
The manga originally inspired an 18-episode anime that began airing in 1989. This was followed by Ranma ½: Netto-hen, which ran from 1989 to 1992 with 143 episodes.
The previous anime were produced by Studio Deen and had Atsuko Nakajima (Komi Can’t Communicate, Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto, Trinity Blood) as character designer. Tsutomu Shibayama (Chibi Maruko-chan co-director) directed the first series while Koji Sawai (.hack//Legend of the Twilight) and Junji Nishimura (Vlad Love, Extreme Hearts) co-directed Netto-hen.
Viz Media publishes physical volumes of the manga in English.
