The anime’s official website also released an updated broadcast schedule in Japan for Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho. Episode 22 will re-broadcast next week on September 15, 2025. The show’s final two episodes have also been delayed, with the 23rd episode set to air on September 22, 2025 and the 24th episode on September 29, 2025.
The anime adaptation was initially supposed to air in June 2024, but was also delayed to production issues to March 2025.
In addition, HIDIVE’s official Twitter/X account announced that the 22nd episode would be delayed, but still scheduled to be released on its service on September 8, 2025. Anime News Network reported last week that the streaming service released an incomplete version of the show’s 21st episode, which had “missing frames, filters, and notable graphic effects” due to “scheduling constraints.”
Kazuya Aiura (Assassin’s Pride) is directing the anime, with Deko Akao (Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp) as series screenwriter, Taro Ikegami (Legend of Mana The Teardrop Crystal) as character designer, and MONACA’s Ryuichi Takada, Keiichi Hirokawa, and Kuniyuki Takahashi as music composers. Yokohama Animation Lab is in charge of the animation production.
The original fantasy novel series is written by Moto Nakanishi and illustrated by Tamaki, which was published by Futabasha from June 21, 2019 to November 22, 2023. Fourteen total volumes were released in Japan during its publication. The novels also inspired a 2021 manga adaptation by Yu Satomi and a stage play. Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed and released both the light novels and manga in English.
The Sword of the Demon Hunter novel series began as a web novel in January 2013 on Arcadia, before also being serialized on Shosetsuka ni Naro. The web novel ended in October 2016.

HIDIVE is streaming the Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho anime series in select English-speaking countries and territories. It describes the main synopsis as:
In the Edo period, there was a shrine maiden called “Itskihime” in the mountain village of Kadono. Jinta, a wandering orphan who, along with his younger sister Suzune, drifted into the village and grew up to become the shrine maiden’s guardian, ventures into the forest to defeat a mysterious demon who speaks to him of the far future and the threat of a Demon God. So begins this epic supernatural historical fantasy series that follows a demon hunter through his century-spanning journey from the Edo to Heisei periods — all-the-while questioning his wielding of a sword.
