Crunchyroll announced that it will release a new documentary film titled The Roots of To Your Eternity, ahead of the upcoming third season of To Your Eternity, which will premiere in Japan on October 4, 2025. The Roots of To Your Eternity will begin streaming on Crunchyroll starting August 29, 2025.
The announcement was made during the To Your Eternity Season 3 panel at Anime NYC, which featured main cast members Reiji Kawashima and Kenjiro Tsuda.

The documentary will explore the “fascinating creative journey of the beloved To Your Eternity series” and will feature through exclusive interviews with original manga creator Oima Yoshitoki, second season director Kiyoko Sayama (who will return to as chief director for the third season), and many more.
The Roots of To Your Eternity will be narrated by Tsuda, and will feature footage to illustrate the anime’s past arc to prepare audiences for the third season.
In addition to the documentary reveal, it was also announced that Japanese girl group Perfume will perform the opening theme song for the upcoming third season.
The first season of To Your Eternity aired from April to August 2021, while the second season ran from October 2022 to March 2023.

Crunchyroll is streaming both seasons of To Your Eternity and describes the main synopsis of the first season as:
In the beginning, an “orb” is cast unto Earth. “It” can do two things: change into the form of the thing that stimulates “it”; and come back to life after death. “It” morphs from orb to rock, then to wolf, and finally to boy, but roams about like a newborn who knows nothing. As a boy, “it” becomes Fushi.
Through encounters with human kindness, Fushi not only gains survival skills, but grows as a “person”. But his journey is darkened by the inexplicable and destructive enemy Nokker, as well as cruel partings with the people he loves.
