Three new cast members have been announced to be joining the ongoing second season of Kaiju No. 8. The anime’s second season premiered its first episode (13th overall in the series) in Japan on July 19, 2025, and will air for 11 total episodes.

The three new cast includes Yuko Kaida as Jura Igarashi, Shunsuke Sakuya as Jugo Ogata, and M.A.O as Toko Kirimori.

They join a main voice cast that stars:

  • • Masaya Fukunishi as Kafka Hibino
  • • Asami Seto as Mina Ashiro
  • • Wataru Kato as Reno Ichikawa
  • • Fairouz Ai as Kikoru Shinomiya
  • • Kengo Kawanishi as Soshiro Hoshina

Most of the main staff from season one are reprising their respective roles for season two. Some of them include Shigeyuki Miya (previously co-director) as director, Yuichiro Kido (Dr. Stone: Science Future, Hoshina’s Day Off scriptwriter) as series screenwriter and scriptwriter, Tetsuya Nishio as character designer and chief animation director, Mahiro Maeda as kaiju designer, and Studio Khara as kaiju supervisor (design and artwork). Production I.G is in charge of the animation production for the second season, after working on the first season.

Much like the first season, the second season’s distribution plans include streaming on Twitter/X, as well as on Crunchyroll and Ani One Asia ULTRA.

The first season premiered in April 2024 and ran for 12 episodes until June 2024. A compilation of season one and the Hoshina’s Day Off OVA were screened theatrically in Japan for three weeks, starting on March 28, 2025. Hoshina’s Day Off then aired in Japan on July 5, 2025.

The anime is based on Naoya Matsumoto’s action manga series, which was launched in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ online website on July 3, 2020 and ended on July 18, 2025. Fifteen tankobon volumes have been released as of March 2025, with a 16th volume that will be published in Japan on September 4, 2025. VIZ Media licensed the manga for publication in English for North America.

The manga has also inspired spinoffs titles such as Kaiju No.8: B-Side and Kaiju No. 8 Relax. A four-chapter side-story light novel written by Keiji Ando was also published in Japan on November 4, 2022.

A video game from Akatsuki Games will be released on the iOS App Store and Google Play on August 31, 2025. The game will also be released on Steam at a later date in the future. Pre-registrations opened on April 26, 2025.
