Takopi’s Original Sin producer Kotaro Sudo (Pop Team Epic) made the right call by allowing the anime to be a six-episode mini-series instead of forcibly stretching it out into a full cour, but the move inevitably means that we’re left with an octopus-shaped hole for the rest of the Summer 2025 anime season. As a bit of solace, though, the Episode 1 special screening of the show at Anime NYC saw the reveal of a new visual, which depicts teenage-aged Shizuka and Marina having a playful moment together. Check it out below:
There’s also another post-finale trailer, focused on Shizuka. Expect less fluffy cuteness and more suffering from this one.
Takopi‘s Original Sin is an adaptation of the manga by TAIZAN 5, which began serialization on Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump+ in 2021 and released its second and final volume in 2022. MangaPlus describes the premise as:
Takopi travels from his home of Happy Planet to spread happiness across Earth, but meets the unsmiling Shizuka upon landing. Her friends at school and home life seem to be the source of her somber expression, and the pure-hearted Takopi is determined to change things for the better! But what truths await him when the curtains rise in this shocking drama?!
Shinya Ino (Dr. STONE and Dr. STONE STONE WARS director, Made in Abyss assistant director et al.) directed the anime at ENISHIYA and also handled the series composition. The main cast includes Kurumi Mamiya as Takopi, Reina Ueda as Shizuka, and Konomi Kohara as Marina.
The Takopi’s Original Sin anime is available on platforms like Crunchyroll and the Ani-One Asia YouTube channel. It deals with heavy topics with an unflinching eye, so heed the content warning at the start of the series before deciding if you wish to tackle it.
