One of the most anticipated anime series, Gachiakuta, took the world by storm with a special premiere at Anime Expo 2025 ahead of its release. Joining the premiere were Kei Urana, the author of the original Gachiakuta manga series, Hideyoshi Ando, a graffiti designer, and Naoki Amano, a producer for Studio Bones.

After having the audience chant “Gachiakuta,” the panel kicked off by giving a short synopsis of the series and its characters before inviting the special guests onto the stage, where the audience cheered and welcomed the guests warmly.
The premiere had a Q&A session with Urana, Ando, and Amano. Since this was Urana, Ando, and Amano’s first time visiting Los Angeles and attending Anime Expo, questions about their time in Los Angeles and Anime Expo were asked before discussing the series and its creative process.

The panel also showed a special video highlighting a special campaign called “Gachiakuta World Takeover” in celebration of the series premiere, where graffiti murals appeared in five cities: Tokyo, Los Angeles, Milan, Taipei, and Hong Kong as a way to signify that Gachiakuta is taking over the world. Other takeovers included the takeover of the Berlin Train Station, San Francisco bus wraps, and the San Diego trolley activation.

Anime Expo attendees were then given a chance to see the first two episodes of Gachiakuta before it streamed later in the day on Crunchyroll on July 2nd.
Gachiakuta is a manga series written by Kei Urana. Urana collaborated with Hideyoshi Ando to create the graffiti art for the series. It was first serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine in February 2022. As of August 2025, the series has released 15 manga volumes, with the 16th volume scheduled to be released in Japan on September 17, 2025. Kodansha USA has licensed and published the series in English. The anime adaptation was first announced in June 2024.
Gachiakuta is currently streaming on Crunchyroll worldwide and describes the synopsis as:
In a floating city where the rich discard their waste—and people—Rudo is framed for murder and thrown into the Pit, where a hellscape of mutated trash beasts dwell. To survive, he must wield a new power and join the Cleaners. Rudo doesn’t just aim to battle monsters, but the corrupt who cast him into Hell.
