After 31 days at the Japanese box office, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has earned 25,782,656,600 yen (~US$174,951,886), making it the fourth highest-grossing movie in the country (without accounting for inflation). It has also replaced Your Name as the third highest-grossing anime movie in Japan.

The movie recorded a moviegoer count of 18,272,941 during this 31-day period.

Last week, Infinity Castle (Gekijoban “Kimetsu no Yaiba” Mugenjou-hen Daiisshou Akaza Sairai in Japanese) replaced ONE PIECE FILM RED as the sixth most successful movie in Japan.

Infinity Castle opened in 452 locations in Japan, including 59 IMAX locations, on July 18 JST. It started its international run this month and will premiere in North America on September 12.

The movie is the first of a trilogy that adapts the final battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and Muzan’s demons in the Demon Slayer story. The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime began with its 2019 first season, which was followed Demon Slayer – Kimetsu No Yaiba – the Movie: Mugen Train (the number one movie in Japan), a TV broadcast version of Mugen TrainDemon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District ArcDemon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc.

The anime are based on the manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, which ran from 2016 to 2020 in Weekly Shonen Jump. Viz Media describes the manga as:

Learning to destroy demons won’t be easy, and Tanjiro barely knows where to start. The surprise appearance of another boy named Giyu, who seems to know what’s going on, might provide some answers—but only if Tanjiro can stop Giyu from killing his sister first!
