Gintama spin-off 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei will begin classes on October 6 JST (effectively October 7 at 12 AM JST). A main trailer and main visual were released with the premiere date announcement.

The new anime adapts the light novel series written by Tomohito Osaki, which envisions Gintoki as a high school teacher called Ginpachi Sakata. It parodies the Japanese drama 3-nen B-gumi Kinpachi-sensei, which aired its first season in 1979 and released the four-hour Final special in 2011. The main Gintama anime has featured shorts with the Ginpachi-sensei premise.

The light novels are published under Shueisha’s JUMP j BOOKS label.

The 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei anime is part of a multi-year Gintama 20th anniversary project for both the original manga and the anime. The original Gintama comedy manga by Hideaki Sorachi began in 2003 and released its 77th and final tankoubon volume in 2019, while the TV anime began airing in Japan in 2006 and ran until 2018 for four seasons.

Crunchyroll describes the Gintama anime as:

In a world where aliens have invaded Edo Period Japan, skyscrapers, trains and motor bikes have replaced the simple life of Earth inhabitants. One man however, still carries the soul of a samurai, Gintoki Sakata, otherwise known as Yorozuya Gin-san. As reckless as he is, Gintoki carries his own resolve and is ready to take on any challenge with his fellow companions.
