HBO Max and GKIDS have announced an expanded partnership that will bring 20 more Japanese anime and live-action feature films.
Many of the newly added and upcoming films to the HBO Max streaming service will be streamed for the first time in North America, with some titles available for 4K streaming.
Beginning September 1, 2025, the following films will be available in the U.S. on HBO Max:
- • Children Who Chase Lost Voices
- • Fireworks
- • Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko
- • Ghost Cat Anzu
- • Lonely Castle in the Mirror
- • Love & Pop
- • The Place Promised in Our Early Days
- • Your Name.
More films coming to HBO Max later in 2025 and 2026 include:

- • Liz and the Blue Bird
- • Lu Over the Wall
- • Millennium Actress
- • Mind Game
- • Perfect Blue
- • Shin Godzilla
- • Summer Wars
- • The Boy and the Beast

HBO Max is already streaming several Studio Ghibli anime films in the U.S., with the films also being distributed on home video by GKIDS.
This summer, GKIDS is also screening Grave of the Fireflies in North American theaters starting August 12, 2025, as part of its annual Studio Ghibli Fest. The next film, Ponyo, will screen in North America from August 23, 2025 to August 27, 2025.
GKIDS also announced today that Mamoru Oshii’s Angel’s Egg will be screened in 4K at the 2025 New York Film Festival.
