Notable action animator Nakaya Onsen, who has worked on anime like Jujutsu Kaisen, Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia, Mob Psycho 100 Season 2, and The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls, recently announced that his debut manga Phenomenon X is getting an English release.
“Good evening to everyone in the English-speaking world. I received an offer to publish the English edition of my manga Phenomenon X, and I’ve accepted it,” Onsen posted on X (formerly Twitter). “I’ll make another announcement once the publication is ready.”
Onsen wrote in a separate post, “In my anime work, I often handle action animation, but my manga contains no action elements at all — it’s a quiet detective story. I hope you’ll enjoy seeing a different side of me from the style you’re used to in my anime work.”
Phenomenon X (Gensho X: Chojo Gensho Sosaroku) debuted in KADOKAWA’s Harta magazine in October 2024 and released its first volume in June 2025. The premise sees cat-eared detective Anan and an investigator looking into a mysterious immolation incident.
Beyond drawing animation (which includes non-action content) and manga, Onsen has also handled tasks like storyboarding and directing. His non-animation credits include:
• The Fate/Samurai Remnant game’s opening movie (director)
• Fate/Grand Order – Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia Episode 18 (storyboard artist, director, action animation director et al.)
• Fate/Grand Order The Movie Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot Wandering; Agateram and Paladin; Agateram (co-character designer)
• Jujutsu Kaisen 0 co-cursed spirit designer
