The classic sci-fi anime films Patlabor: The Movie and Patlabor 2: The Movie are getting 4K limited special editions that include English dub and sub options. The first movie will be released in Japan on January 28, 2026 JST, while the sequel will follow on March 25, 2026 JST.

The 4K remaster collections include a regular Blu-ray disc, a booklet, and a storyboard collection. Dolby TrueHD (5.1) audio is available.

Both releases will cost 14,300 yen (~US$96.88) with tax included. They’re being sold on A-on STORE and Premium Bandai.

Aside from the remaster collections, it was announced that there will be revival 4K screenings for both films in Japan. The first Patlabor film will begin screening on October 3 JST, while the second will start its run on October 17 JST.

Patlabor: The Movie and Patlabor 2: The Movie originally premiered in 1989 and 1993, respectively. The Mamoru Oshii-directed films are part of the Patlabor franchise, which features grounded mecha and follows a police force.

A new Patlabor animation project, Patlabor EZY, was announced in 2017. An update last year revealed that Yutaka Izubuchi (Patlabor mechanical designer, RahXephon director, Metallic Rouge chief supervisor) was directing at J.C.STAFF, and that the project will kick off in 2026.
