Catalyst Game Labs, the current publisher of tabletop titles like BattleTech (mech miniatures game) and Shadowrun (cyberpunk fantasy RPG), is bringing My Hero Academia to the world of miniatures games in partnership with Crunchyroll.

Simply titled My Hero Academia: Miniatures Game, the experience is described as a “competitive” game for two or more players, with an estimated playtime of 40 minutes (games will play out over six rounds). Its miniatures are pre-assembled and pre-painted, and previews show that there are miniatures for students, Pro Heroes, and villains.

The game is skirmish-level, with players controlling three students or villains as they “complete Missions, impress the watching Pro Heroes, and ensure they can tackle any villains who might unexpectedly make an appearance.” Terrain is stated to “define combat nearly as much as the characters, whether you hide behind cover or throw a building at someone.”

Expect movement decisions that affect both the player’s and their opponent’s accuracy, and abilities inspired by characters’ Quirks. There are also considerations like reroll-enabling Plus Ultra! tokens, Hero/Villain tokens that upgrade a die, and “character-specific tokens,” as well as the fact that taking damage results in upgrades being “applied to dice whenever that player builds any dice pools for Attack or Defense.” Details for a character are provided on a card.

Speaking of dice, custom color-coded dice will be the default, but the rules will provide options for players to use their own.

Like various other Catalyst products, there will be a Kickstarter campaign for My Hero Academia: Miniatures Game. At the onset, the lineup will include a box set called the Duelling Box (possibly a lightweight, entry-level starter similar to Catalyst’s BattleTech: Beginner Box) and miniatures for characters like Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, Ochaco Uraraka, Tenya Iida, Shoto Todoroki, Tsuyu Asui, Minoru Mineta, Eijiro Kirishima, Momo Yaoyorozu, and Fumikage Tokoyami. Catalyst is teasing the addition of characters like All Might, additional terrain sets, and special dice as unlocks.

More details about the game and how it plays can be found on its BackerKit landing page.
