The X (formerly Twitter) account for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has announced that the anime film made 17,639,557,600 yen (~US$119.3 million) and drew 12,558,582 moviegoers in its first 17-days period. 

Disregarding inflation, this haul propels it from being the 29th highest-grossing movie in Japan (which it achieved in 10 days) to number 10, the spot below Howl’s Moving Castle

2020’s Demon Slayer – Kimetsu No Yaiba – the Movie: Mugen Train sits at the top with 40.43 billion yen.

Infinity Castle (Gekijoban “Kimetsu no Yaiba” Mugenjou-hen Daiisshou Akaza Sairai in Japanesepremiered in Japan on July 18 JST and will begin its international run in August. It will premiere in North America on September 12.

The movie is the first in a trilogy that adapts the final arc of the Demon Slayer story. The films will cover the Demon Slayer Corps’ final battle with Muzan and his demons in the titular Infinity Castle.

In Japan, Infinity Castle opened in 452 locations, 59 being IMAX spots. Mugen Train opened in 403 places, including 38 IMAX locations.

The original Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga by Koyoharu Gotouge ran from 2016 to 2020 in Weekly Shonen Jump. Viz Media describes the manga as:

Learning to destroy demons won’t be easy, and Tanjiro barely knows where to start. The surprise appearance of another boy named Giyu, who seems to know what’s going on, might provide some answers—but only if Tanjiro can stop Giyu from killing his sister first!

The Demon Slayer anime started in 2019 with the first TV anime season. This was followed by Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train, a TV broadcast version of Mugen TrainDemon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District ArcDemon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc.
