The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle trilogy’s first movie has cut its way past the 12.8 billion yen mark, with the Demon Slayer X (formerly Twitter account) announcing that it earned 12,872,176,700 yen (~US$87.1 million) in its first ten days.

Meanwhile, the moviegoer count during this period is calculated to be 9,104,483.

In comparison, 2020’s Demon Slayer – Kimetsu No Yaiba – the Movie: Mugen Train made around 10.7 billion yen and drew around 7.98 million moviegoers in its first ten days. Infinity Castle (Gekijoban “Kimetsu no Yaiba” Mugenjou-hen Daiisshou Akaza Sairai in Japanese) opened in 452 locations (including 59 IMAX spots) nationwide, while Mugen Train opened in 403 (including 38 IMAX locations).

Infinity Castle‘s 12,872,176,700 yen haul makes it the 29th highest-grossing movie in Japan of all time. Mugen Train currently holds the throne with 40.43 billion yen.

While Mugen Train was the first Demon Slayer movie, coming between the first TV anime series and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc, Infinity Castle is the first in a (likely) conclusive trilogy that adapts the final arc of the Demon Slayer story. The Infinity Castle films will follow the Demon Slayer Corps as they engage in a final battle with Muzan’s demons in the titular castle.

International screenings for Infinity Castle will start in August. September 12 is when it’ll hit North American screens.

The original Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga by Koyoharu Gotouge ran from 2016 to 2020 in Weekly Shonen Jump. Viz Media describes the manga as:

Learning to destroy demons won’t be easy, and Tanjiro barely knows where to start. The surprise appearance of another boy named Giyu, who seems to know what’s going on, might provide some answers—but only if Tanjiro can stop Giyu from killing his sister first!

The anime started in 2019 with the first TV anime season, which was followed by Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train, a TV broadcast version of Mugen TrainDemon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District ArcDemon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc. Infinity Castle premiered in Japan on July 18 JST.
