Three new additional cast members have been revealed for the upcoming Sentenced to Be a Hero TV anime series. The anime will premiere in January 2026, after it was announced that it had been delayed from its original October 2025 debut date. 

The new cast members include Yoji Ueda as Norgalle Senridge, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Tatsuya, and Jun Fukushima as Tsav. 

They join a main voice cast that includes: 

  • • Yohei Azakami as Xylo Forbartz
  • • Mayu Izuka as Teoritta
  • • Shizuka Ishigami as Patausche Kivia 
  • • Shun Horie as Dotta Luzulas 
  • • Shunichi Toki as Venetim Leopool

Hiroyuki Takashima (Symphogear XV co-action director, The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls U149 assistant director) is directing the anime series, with Yoshitake Nakaoji (Symphogear XV co-action director) as assistant director and creature designer, Kenta Ihara (Ishura) as series screenwriter and scriptwriter, Noda Takeshi (DAN DA DAN sub-character designer on Episode 1, 5, 6 et al.) as character designer, Nobutaka Ike (Belle background art director) as setting designer, and Shunsuke Takizawa (Studio Apartment, Good Lighting, Angel Included) as music composer. Studio KAI is in charge of the animation production. 

The dark fantasy light novel series is written by Rocket Shoukai and illustrated by Mephisto. It was first launched as a web novel on Kadokawa’s Kakuyomu website on October 28, 2020. Kadokawa then published the light novels on September 17, 2021 and has released seven volumes as of January 2025. 

A manga adaptation by Natsumi Inoue was launched on Dengeki Comic Regulus on March 25, 2022. Two tankobon volumes have been released as of April 2024. The manga is published digitally in English by Kadokawa’s BookWalker website.

Yen Press licensed the light novels for release in English under its Yen On imprint, with the localized title originally being Sentenced to Brave Punishment. It describes the main synopsis as:

Heroism — a punishment for only the worst criminals. Those sentenced to the fate of a hero are forced to fight at the front lines against the demon king’s army—and if they die, they can expect to be revived and continue the battle. But when their leader, convicted of killing a goddess, meets another goddess himself, the contract they forge may be enough to change the world…
