The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards have announced that horror manga artist Junji Ito has been inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Awards Hall of Fame during San Diego Comic-Con 2025.
VIZ Media has also released a video message from Ito, who commented on his induction.
Ito was first nominated for the honor on February 28, 2025. The late manga artist Shigeru Mizuki is also being inducted posthumously in this year’s Eisner Hall of Fame class.
Ito previously won four Eisner Awards for Lovesickness, Remina, Venus In The Blind Spot, and Frankenstein.

Previous Japanese inductees of the Eisner Hall of Fame include Osamu Tezuka (2002), Kazuo Koike (2004), Goseki Kojima (2004), Katsuhiro Otomo (2012), Rumiko Takahashi (2018), Moto Hagio (2022), and Keiji Nakazawa (2024). Akira Toriyama and Naoki Urasawa were previously nominated in 2019, but were not among the inductees selected.
VIZ will release Ito’s latest manga collection, Moan: Junji Ito Story Collection, in October 2025.
Another Junji Ito TV anime series, titled Junji Ito Crimson, was announced earlier this month and is currently in production.
