Dark Horse Manga announced today that it will publish oversized deluxe hardcover editions of writer Garon Tsuchiya and artist Nobuaki Minegishi’s Oldboy manga series. The psychological thriller manga will be released in two deluxe edition volumes in 2026.

The manga’s new release will be translated into English by Kumar Sivasubramanian and lettered by Michael David Thomas and Kathryn Renta. Both deluxe volumes will feature a new, noir-inspired cover made with metallic silver foil paper, and includes a ribbon bookmarker.

Oldboy Deluxe Edition: Book One will be released in a 848-page (7×10”) hardcover volume in bookstores on January 6, 2026, and comic shops on January 7, 2026. It collects volumes one through four of the original Japanese manga series.

Tsuchiya and Minegishi serialized the manga series in Futabasha’s Manga Action magazine from 1996 to 1998. Eight total tankobon volumes were originally published in Japan. Dark Horse Comics first licensed the manga for release in English in 2005, and later released them between July 2006 to October 2007.

The manga also won the Eisner Award for Best U.S. Edition of International Material in 2007.

The series also inspired a 2003 South Korean live-action adaptation from Park Chan-wook and a 2013 American live-action adaptation from Spike Lee

Dark Horse Manga describes the main synopsis of both volumes as:

Oldboy Deluxe Edition: Book One

Ten years ago, they took him. He doesn’t know who. For ten years, he has been confined to a private prison. He doesn’t know why. For ten years, his only contact with the outside world has been a television set and the voices of his jailers. Suddenly, one day, his incarceration ends without explanation. Sedated and dumped in a park, Shinichi Goto awakens—free to reclaim what’s left of his life—and what’s left is revenge.

Oldboy Deluxe Edition: Book Two

Goto relentlessly marches forward to uncover the identity of the man who imprisoned him for ten years—seemingly for no reason. But Goto’s nemesis has lured him into a trap. Is allowing Goto the opportunity to enact his revenge just another part of his twisted plan? As he struggles to find the motive behind the punishment he endured, Goto receives clues suggesting a connection to a time long forgotten from his adolescence. Could all his torment have been the result of a schoolyard grudge? The cruel game has only just begun.
