The Lollipop Chainsaw zombie action-adventure game is getting an anime adaptation, according to an announcement from Taiwan-based NADA HOLDINGS, which describes itself as a company “specializing in the investment of Animation and Manga IPs, Intellectual Property licensing, and producing management.”

The project will be a partnership with Japan’s Dragami Games (credited as the developer and publisher of the game’s remaster, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP). Aside from the anime, there will also be a new Lollipop Chainsaw game, with the development team including “key staff members” from the original.

NADA HOLDINGS said in its announcement, “As with the original, the new title aims to recreate a world rich in dark humor. The development process will prioritize staying true to the distinctive tone and spirit of the original work, without imposing excessive creative restrictions in the name of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).”

The original Lollipop Chainsaw was released in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It was developed by GrassHopper Manufacture (led by notable Japanese game designer SUDA51), published by the now-defunct Kadokawa Games (which divested a part of its business to Dragami Games), and had James Gunn (the director of films like 2025’s Superman and the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy) assisting with the script. GrassHopper Manufacture’s website describes the game as:

Jump into the role of a cheerleader named Juliet, a student at the huge San Romero High School, located somewhere on the American west coast, who comes from a family of zombie hunters and must use her chainsaw to mow down virtually endless hordes of zombies in this unique slice of zombie high school entertainment.

It all started on Juliet’s 18th birthday. Juliet heads to school to meet up with her boyfriend. But there she finds her former classmates, now transformed into zombies, waiting for her…
