A new character visual has been released for the second season of Kaiju No. 8, spotlighting the First Division captain Gen Narumi. The second season premiered its first episode (13th overall in the series) in Japan on July 19, 2025, and will have 11 total episodes.

Most of the main staff from season one are reprising their respective roles for season two. Some of them include Shigeyuki Miya (previously co-director) as director, Yuichiro Kido (Dr. Stone: Science Future, Hoshina’s Day Off scriptwriter) as series screenwriter and scriptwriter, Tetsuya Nishio as character designer and chief animation director, Mahiro Maeda as kaiju designer, and Studio Khara as kaiju supervisor (design and artwork). Production I.G is handling the animation production for the second season, as it did with the first.

Meanwhile, the anime’s main voice cast stars:

  • • Masaya Fukunishi as Kafka Hibino
  • • Asami Seto as Mina Ashiro
  • • Wataru Kato as Reno Ichikawa
  • • Fairouz Ai as Kikoru Shinomiya
  • • Kengo Kawanishi as Soshiro Hoshina

Much like the first season, the second season’s distribution plans include streaming on Twitter/X, as well as on Crunchyroll and Ani One Asia ULTRA.

The first season premiered in April 2024 and ran for 12 episodes until June 2024. A compilation of season one and the Hoshina’s Day Off OVA were screened theatrically in Japan for three weeks, starting on March 28, 2025. Hoshina’s Day Off was broadcasted in Japan on July 5, 2025.

The anime adaptation is based on Naoya Matsumoto’s action manga series, which was launched in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ online website on July 3, 2020. The manga recently ended on July 18, 2025. Fifteen tankobon volumes have been released as of March 2025, with a 16th volume set to be released on September 4, 2025. VIZ Media licensed the manga for publication in English for North America.

The manga has also inspired spinoffs titles such as Kaiju No.8: B-Side and Kaiju No. 8 Relax. A four-chapter side-story light novel written by Keiji Ando was also released on November 4, 2022.

An upcoming video game from Akatsuki Games will be released on the App Store, Google Play, and Steam at a still-to-be-determined date. Pre-registrations opened on April 26, 2025.

Crunchyroll is streaming the second season of Kaiju No. 8, and describes the main premise as:

As new recruits head to their posts, Kafka meets Gen Narumi, the strongest man in the Defense Force and leader of the First Division. Kafka embraces the power of Kaiju No. 8 to force Gen to recognize his strength. Meanwhile, Kaiju No. 9 lurks in the shadows as the greatest threat the Defense Force has faced awaits.
