Two new cast members are joining the ongoing Anne Shirley TV anime series for the show’s next “Redmond College” story arc, beginning on July 19, 2025. The anime first premiered in Japan on April 5, 2025 and will air for 24 total episodes.
The new cast members include Chika Anzai as Philippa Gordon and Tokuyoshi Kawashima as Royal Gardner.
They join the anime’s voice cast that stars:
- • Honoka Inoue as Anne Shirley
- • Aya Nakamura as Marilla Cuthbert
- • Naoya Miyase as Gilbert Blythe
- • Yume Miyamoto as Diana Barry
Hiroshi Kawamata (Shimajiro to Ehon no Kuni) is directing the anime, with Natsuko Takahashi (The Aristocrat’s Otherworldly Adventure: Serving Gods Who Go Too Far) as series screenwriter, Kenichi Tsuchiya (The Garden of Words) as character designer, Tadashi Kudo (Smile of the Arsnotoria the Animation) as background art director, Shiho Kuriki (RYOTEI-NO-AJI Summer Break Memories, City Hunter: Angel Dust) as color designer, Shinji Saito (RYOTEI-NO-AJI Summer Break Memories, City Hunter: Angel Dust) as compositing director, and Michiru Oshima (Little Witch Academia) as music composer. The Answer Studio is handling the animation production.
According to the series’ press release, the new 2025 anime series will adapt three of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s original Anne of Green Gables books: Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, and Anne of the Island.
A new manga adaptation was launched on January 5, 2025, illustrated by Akane Hoshikubo. It is serialized in Enterbrain’s B’s LOG COMIC magazine.
The book series previously inspired a 1979 anime series — directed by the late Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya) — and 2009’s Konnichiwa Anne: Before Green Gables, which were both released under Nippon Animation’s World Masterpiece Theater series.

Crunchyroll is streaming Anne Shirley worldwide, outside of Japan, and describes the anime series as:
On the beautiful Prince Edward Island in Canada, an orphan named Anne Shirley is mistakenly sent to Green Gables, the home of Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. They choose to adopt her anyway, as Anne finds friendship, love, and happiness in her new home. Come along for the story of a purehearted and imaginative girl growing up, leaving for college, and returning home a changed woman.
