During Anime Expo 2025, Shochiku unveiled a second new trailer for the upcoming You and I Are Polar Opposites TV anime series, which also confirmed the casting for its two lead characters. The series is expected to premiere in Japan in January 2026 and will stream on Crunchyroll.

The English-subtitled trailer introduces the casting of Sayumi Suzushiro as the main heroine Suzuki and Shogo Sakata as the male lead Tani.

Japanese producer tofubeats is composing the anime’s musical score.

Takakazu Nagatomo (SHOSHIMIN Episode 3 and 8 storyboarder and director et al.) is directing the anime series, with Teruko Utsumi (Sarazanmai co-series composer and co-scriptwriter, model producer) serving as both series screenwriter and animation producer, and Mako Miyako as character designer. Naho Kozono (Undead Murder Farce) is also serving as the sub-character designer and one of the chief animation directors. Lapin Track is in charge of the animation production.

The anime is based on the romantic comedy manga by Kocha Agasawa, which started serialization on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ on May 2, 2022 and ended on November 25, 2024 (the same day as the anime’s announcement). The manga originally began as a one-shot in 2021. The series is published digitally in English by the MANGA Plus app and website.

VIZ Media licensed the You and I are Polar Opposites manga for release in English print, describing the first volume as:

Suzuki’s a high school girl in love, but the guy she’s fallen for is nothing like her! While she’s cheerful, outgoing, and always trying to fit in, her classmate Yusuke Tani is stoic, quiet, and doesn’t seem to care what people think of him. Will Suzuki be able to overcome her anxieties and ask him out, or will she discover that opposites really don’t attract?
