HIDIVE has announced at Anime Expo 2025 that it will exclusively stream the upcoming second season of Reincarnated as a Sword. The second season is expected to premiere in Japan in 2026, with HIDIVE specifying that it will be part of its “Fall 2026 simulcast season line-up.”
A new teaser visual, featuring the lead heroine Fran and the sword protagonist, was also revealed by NBCUniversal Japan during the licensor’s industry panel at Anime Expo 2025.

The anime’s first season first aired in Japan on October 5, 2022 and ran for 12 episodes until December 21, 2022. A second season was announced after the season finale. Bilibili streamed the series in China and other Asian regions.
Shinji Ishihira (Sasaki and Miyano) is returning to direct the second season after working on season one, along with Takahiro Nagano (Yo-kai Watch: Reborn scriptwriter) as series screenwriter and scriptwriter, and Atsuko Saito (Shachibato! President, It’s Time for Battle! chief animation director) as character designer. C2C will once again be handling the animation production.
Other first season staff consisted of Kazunobu Shimizu (Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy) as assistant director, and Ryo Haga (Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy co-main animator) as main animator, and Yasuharu Takanashi as music composer.
Other staff from season one included Masahiro Sato (Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy) as art director, Masato Takagi (Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy) as color designer, and Onodera Masaaki (Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy) as photography director. Hiroshi Arisawa (Astra Lost in Space mechanical designer), Shiori Kudo (Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy animation director), and Ryosuke Kuwabara (PuraOre! Pride of Orange animation director) served as the monster designers, while Shinya Asanuma was the sword designer.

The anime is based on the isekai light novel series written by Yuu Tanaka and illustrated by Llo. The light novels first began as a web novel on Shosetsuka ni Naro in October 17, 2015. The series was first published on July 30, 2016 under Micro Magazine’s GC Novels label, and has released 19 volumes as of March 2025.
A manga adaptation by Tomowo Maruyama was launched in Gentosha’s Comic Boost magazine on December 9, 2016. Another spinoff manga series called Reincarnated as a Sword: Another Wish by Hinako Inoue was launched on June 1, 2020 and ended on December 28, 2022. Seven Seas Entertainment releases both the light novel and manga adaptation in English.

HIDIVE streamed the first season of Reincarnated as a Sword in select English-speaking countries and territories, outside of Japan. It describes the main synopsis as:
Some isekai protagonists are reincarnated as powerful warriors or skilled wizards, but our protagonist was reborn in another life as a sentient sword! He’s taken up by Fran, a desperate girl fleeing evil-doers intent on selling her into slavery. With her new weapon’s help and guidance, she’s able to strike down her captors and secure her freedom.
