DAN DA DAN Season 2 has premiered, bringing with it not just the continuation of the current arc but new, entertaining opening and ending animations that have been officially released on YouTube.

The MicAOz-storyboarded and unit-directed opening may not be as outrageous as its predecessor, but its first-person viewpoints and panels still bring a sense of fun and inventiveness. These are boosted by the animation — which feel less restrained than what’s generally seen in the series itself — and cool visual moments like that striking sunset walk that transitions into a kintama shot.

Meanwhile, the ending (storyboarded, unit-directed, solo-key animated, and more by Komugiko2000) has its own sense of freedom with its character drawings, and also delivers rotating shots and one of this writer’s favorite things in the world: (good) 2D dance animation.

DAN DA DAN Season 2’s opening song is “Kamei Douchuu” by AINA THE END, while the ending song is “Doukashiteru” by WurtS.

DAN DA DAN adapts the Shueisha-published sci-fi occult manga by Yukinobu Tatsu, which debuted on Shonen Jump+ in 2021 and has 19 tankoubon volumes as of April 2025. Viz Media describes the manga as:

Momo Ayase strikes up an unusual friendship with her school’s UFO fanatic, whom she nicknames “Okarun” because he has a name that is not to be said aloud. While Momo believes in spirits, she thinks aliens are nothing but nonsense. Her new friend, meanwhile, thinks the exact opposite. To settle matters, the two set out to prove each other wrong—Momo to a UFO hotspot and Okarun to a haunted tunnel! What unfolds next is a beautiful story of young love…and oddly horny aliens and spirits?
