A new anime movie from the Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunsou/Sgt. Keroro) series will premiere in Japan in summer 2026.

The staff credits for the movie include:

• Scriptwriter and chief director: Yuichi Fukuda (Gintama live-action movie director and scriptwriter)
• Director: Fumitoshi Oizaki (Sgt. Frog character designer, Deaimon and The Gorilla God’s Go-To Girl)
• Character designer: Satoshi Koike (Sgt. Frog 20th anniversary video animation director)
• Animation production: Bandai Namco Pictures

Meanwhile, the cast announcements include the following returning names:

Kumiko Watanabe as Sergeant Keroro
Hoko Kuwashima as Fuyuki Hinata

Sgt. Frog is inspired by the KADOKAWA-published manga by Mine Yoshizaki, which began in 1999 (after a 1998 one-shot) in Shonen Ace and has 34 volumes as of August 2024. Viz Media describes the first volume as:

After Sgt. Keroro blew his cover and lost his top-secret weapon, the frog-like alien has been cut off from the homeworld. To make matters worse, he’s lost communications with the rest of his platoon. Now he has taken cover in the Hinata family household, where in exchange for doing his share of the chores, he gets his own room from which to secretly devise new plans of world domination!

The announcement of a new Sgt. Frog anime project was made on April 1, 2024 JST, together with the release of the 20th anniversary video. The first Sgt. Frog anime series premiered in 2004 and ran for 358 episodes across multiple seasons, ending in 2011. The 24-episode Keroro followed in 2014.

Both of the series were produced by Sunrise (now just a brand name of BN Pictures), but had differences in the staff lineup. The former had production assistance from Bridge, while this credit went to Gathering for the latter.

In addition to the series, there are a few anime movies.
